Day 344 | Dirty Boys

I’ve been listening to the cast recording of the Lazarus soundtrack. The song, “Lazarus,” was one of Bowie’s last songs, appeared on Blackstar and was accompanied by a chilling video which I posted early in this tribute. The play, which I sadly didn’t see, featured many of Bowie’s songs, including some new ones, many classics and a few from The Next Day, including, surprisingly, “Dirty Boys.” I’m especially enjoying the covers of some of Bowie’s later songs, like this one. Bowie’s original is better. It has similarities to Iggy Pop’s “The Dumb Dumb Boys,” and its hard not to think of a very early Bowie song, “The London Boys,” but that’s more because the titles are similar than because the songs are similar. I kept a little journal of my reaction to The Next Day for the first several days I was listening to it when it was released in 2013 and I immediately liked this song. I still do. Album: The Next Day
