Day 213 | Black Tie White Noise

This well-intentioned but flawed song was inspired by Bowie witnessing the Los Angeles Riots of 1992. Although I’m not sure, I think that contributed to his decision to move to New York. The song combines the moralizing of Tin Machine, this time about race relations, with the plastic soul style of the Young Americans era. To my ears the mix isn’t the best, but it must have been meaningful to Bowie because he not only released it as a single and a video but used it as the title track for his album. This doesn’t quite count as a duet, but the other singer here is a guy named Al B Sure! (the exclamation point is part of his name)., Album: Black Tie White Noise
