Day 212 | One Shot

If there is such a thing as an average Tin Machine song, this is it. One review I read characterized this song as, “one of Bowie’s most aesthetically bankrupt records.” That’s too harsh. It’s the kind of song I’d rather have in the universe than not, although it isn’t especially memorable or exciting. It also suffers a little by comparison to the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” which has nothing to do with this song but employs the words “shot” and “away” to more memorable, chilling affect. Although I didn’t pick up on it for years, this song is apparently about a guy shooting his wife, so, if you know that, it is hard not to also think of “Hey Joe,” another much better song. That said, knowing that Bowie isn’t around anymore to create new music, it is nice that a song you probably haven’t heard in a while and a video that you might not have ever seen is kicking around.
