Day 180 | Sell me a Coat

Bowie’s first studio album is generally regarded as the self-titled 1967 album, David Bowie. It was a dud and contains little that hints at his eventual talent. Two years later he made a promotional film called Love You Til Tuesday that included an early version of the song, “Space Oddity.” The film and an album containing the songs of the film were not released until many years later. Other than “Space Oddity,” the songs are not very good. In my opinion they are slightly better than the songs from his previous album, but the more interesting thing he was doing was making a music video album 12 years before MTV, which was not standard practice at the time, especially for an unknown, aspiring artist. This song is typical of the effort. Album: Love You Til Tuesday (Soundtrack)

Note from 2018: The video I posted in 2016 has vanished. In its place, I am posting an audio link to the song (which I think is a slightly older version than appears on the Love You Til Tuesday project).
