Day 306 | Seu Jorge sings Starman
A few days after 9/11/2001 the Buffalo Philharmonic was set to perform Beethoven’s 9th symphony. Michelle and I were planning to go anyway, but boy did we need it. Before the formal concert began, JoAnn Falletta strode onto stage and conducted the orchestra in playing the national anthem. It was the most memorable moment of music I ever experienced. I had been planning to see Seu Jorge with Michelle and my sister, Rosemary Maggiore since the concert was announced. He is the Brazilian singer who did several Bowie songs in Portuguese for the film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. The concert was a Bowie tribute in which he performed those songs, entirely in Portuguese, and entirely beautifully. With the world collapsing, protests literally happening in the street and civility breaking down to the point that someone was actually removed from the small theater- we needed this concert. Today’s post is one of the songs he performed. Album: The Life Aquatic soundtrack
