Day 190 | 20th Century Boy

This one has a curious connection to Bowie.  Originally it was a T-Rex song from 1973.  Fast forward to 1998 when Todd Haynes made the fictionalized bio-drama about Bowie during the glam period, Velvet Goldmine.  Bowie was against the project and no actual Bowie music was used, however both original Bowie-like music was used as well as other actual songs from the period.  The band Placebo performed the song in the movie.  But if Bowie objected to the movie, he must have been happy with Placebo’s contribution because he subsequently made a few appearances with the band, and this was one of the songs they performed together.  So a fictionalized movie about Bowie resurrected a real song from a glam-era band, performed by a real band appearing as a fictional band, and later performed by the real band and the real Bowie under their own names.
