If Bowie wanted to go out having created a song more bizarre and indecipherable than the Bewlay Brothers…well this song doesn’t quite achieve that, but it comes close. I read that it shares its title with a play that I know nothing about, so maybe there is a connection to the play. If so, it must be a very confusing play. Bowie’s singing is beautiful on this song, but the whole vibe of it, starting with the ugly word, ‘whore,” is unsettling. Album: Blackstar
