Day 167 | Maggie’s Farm

Tin Machine covered this Bob Dylan song around the time of their first album, on which it does not appear. I’m guessing it was between this and John Lennon’s “working Class Hero,” and the latter won out. I actually think this is the better song, or at least the better performed song. It is also worth noting that I’m happy that Bowie seemed to make a point of covering songs both from lesser known and the very best known artists – I’m not sure of another major performer of his generation who covered Dylan, the Beatles, the Stones, Pink Floyd, Springsteen, the Doors, the Who, Neil Young, the Beach Boys, Iggy Pop, George Harrison, Simon and Garfunkel and many, many others.
