Day 309 | Imagine

I was saving this song for the anniversary of John Lennon’s death (December 8^th), however it seems even more fitting to close out the week in which this Bowie tribute has doubled as a lamentation about the election.  “Imagine” is not quite right—like “Born in the USA” and “Revolution,” the actual lyrics reveal a meaning slightly different than the title and refrain alone suggest, but close enough, the song is about the dream of a fairer, more equitable and peaceful world.  The song is sad because it isn’t the real world, and it’s sad because it is associated with a terrible event (Bowie sings it here as a tribute to Lennon).  And since I don’t have Bowie singing “Hallelujah” in a white pantsuit, this is the next best thing.
