Day 300 | Lover to the Dawn

This early song, which Bowie performs with John Hutchsenson, is immediately recognizable as a precursor to “Cygnet Committee.” As the song progresses, however it soon becomes evident that it is more than just a rough draft (in fact at the very end do we hear a very, very early hint at “Heroes”?) In part because of the poor recording quality I think this turns out to be one of Bowie’s eeriest songs, whether intentionally or not. It’s also notable to my ears as just better than much of what else he was doing at the time.
