Day 143 | What’s Really Happening

The unique thing about this song is that a few lines came about through a fan contest.  The winner contributed some of the lyrics for what Bowie would call “the first cyber song.” The idea was that the Internet (in 1999) could make the process of creating music interactive.  I get the impression that Bowie wasn’t especially happy with the result.  To my knowledge he did not perform the song live, or if he did, he didn’t make it a staple, and while the recording session was web cast, he did not make a video.  This clip is more a mini-documentary about the song than it is a video of the song—you don’t get to the full song until the end.
