“Unseen” footage of “The Jean Genie”

The above video purports to be “unseen” footage of Bowie performing, “The Jean Genie” as part of the 1980 Floor Show. So, first of all, I’m not sure that the footage is not actually synced to an unrelated performance. Maybe not. Anyway, the footage is “unseen” probably because it just stops about a third of the way through the song. If you watch it through, you will see Bowie singing for a bit, then…black. But you will still hear the rest of the song.

The arrangement is noticeably different than the album version, which I find interesting because at the time of the 1980 Floor Show, the song was still pretty new. I think sometimes Bowie would perform a song in a way that sounded different than the version on his albums because his voice changed or just because he got tired of performing it the same way. I’m not sure either case can really apply here, so he was just being creative.
