Bowie cover of the week: Texanspaniard performs a “Let’s Dance/Heroes” mashup

Texanspaniard, whose real name is Pedro Boyd, is a self-described amateur artist and musician. In this video, he purportedly takes a request for some Bowie and proceeds to perform an extended mashup of “Let’s Dance” and “Heroes.” He’s alone, accompanied by his guitar and some sort of sound effects, but not backed by a band. I like what he does with two of Bowie’s best known songs (though it goes on a little long).

To repeat myself, I like what this guy does with the material. That said, he kinda wins “cover of the week” by default. As with every week, there were many other covers posted, but all of them, as far as I could tell, were either of the amateur variety like this (and this one was the best), bootlegged covert footage in which the sound, audio or both are not great or, in at least one case, a new video of an old recording. I’ll mention that one— Cuff the Dark’s cover of “Star” from their 2013 EP, In Out Time, Part 2. Cuff the Dark is a professional band with several records to their name and does a compelling job with “Star”— I actually liked it as a piece of music more than this, but I prefer to highly truly new interpretations of Bowie with this weekly feature, so…Texanspaniard!
