Aurora performs “Life on Mars”

When I was reviewing Bowie covers for “cover of the week” I came across a reaction video (click to link to it) by a guy called Harri Best to this video by the Norwegian singer, Aurora performing “Life on Mars.” Best is blown away. It turns out there are plenty of other reaction videos to this cover, and everyone else has the same reaction. Aurora does something special with this song.

Well, by my own made up standards for “cover of the week,” I didn’t select this because while the Best reaction video was new, the Aurora video on which it was based has been around for a while. That said, it is very much worth watching, or at least hearing, so I’m posting it today. My words are inadequate to describe exactly why her version of this song is so affecting, so listen to it!

I don’t think I had ever even heard of Aurora before coming across Best’s reaction to this song. As a result, though, I had YouTube give me a mix of her music, and she has a lot of it! At the age of 27 now (she must have been 19 or 20 when she recorded “Life on Mars”), she’s well established and has an international fan base. Discoveries like this are a big benefit of doing this blog.
