“Ziggy Stardust” Demo

Far Out, the online magazine that frequently publishes articles about Bowie, recently posted a story about this Ziggy demo. Bowie sings the demo accompanied only by his own acoustic guitar. It’s a slower version that the article compares to some of his earlier folk-style music (it’s much better than any of that). There’s nothing shocking or especially revelatory here, and although the article touts the version as “rare,” it appears as a bonus song on my own Rykodisc edition of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars CD, so I’ve heard it before. Actually, though, those Rykodisc CDs are now more than 30 years old and are no longer the standard issue of Bowie’s catalogue, so when I get around to it I’ll post some commentary about those, which I guess have themselves become rarities.
