Weird Earl Slick/Devo dream…

Ok, this is a funny enough dream to post about: I am currently in Buffalo, NY, which is where in grew up. The dream takes place there. In the dream, I had been with Earl Slick in his Buffalo workshop (to my knowledge, Earl Slick does not actually have a workshop in Buffalo). Afterwards I began walking down a real street called Delaware Avenue. There’s a section of the street that has a series of townhouses. I was on the other side of the street and noticed that members of the band Devo were walking up and down the stairs sequentially at each townhouse, making their way down the block this way. I waved, and one of them waved back. I figured that they must have been in town and this was their way of promoting their upcoming show. Moments later, they had set up a picnic on the lawn in front of one of these townhouses. Yes, the dream took place at a warmer time of year. At this actual time in the real Buffalo, it is cold and snowy and nobody would be setting up a picnic on Delaware Avenue. Tailgating, maybe, but not a picnic. Anyway, I went over to talk to the Devo guys, said something along the lines of, “You didn’t think I wouldn’t know who you were, did you?” And then, though in the previous part of the dream I had not been interviewing Earl Slick, my dream retconned itself so that I had, and I now had my mics and recording equipment and asked for an interview with Devo, which is where the dream ended. So, I guess, if you are reading this and know a contact with Devo, I now kinda actually do want to interview them, so let me know…

So, the image is what ChatGPT gave me when I asked it to illustrate this story. The main Devo image is remarkably true to what I dreamed (however check out the plastic-man black-sleeved long arm of the second guy on the stairs, waving). Chat could have done a better Earl Slick. The townhouses are very accurate, to the point that I wonder if Chat based that part of the image on the actual townhouses I was thinking of in my dream. What Buffalo looks like south of the townhouses is far off. And I do not have a bald spot on the back of my head!
