“Starman” Lightyear trailer

Two days ago I posted about how people are using “Starman” as the soundtrack of their own Superman videos. While looking into that, I was reminded how often the song is used in movies or trailers. Here’s an example, the 2021 for the movie, Lightyear. “Starman” comes in about a minute into the video, and it’s a highly remixed and edited version of the song, but I’d put this in the “good use” category. I didn’t see the movie, and my understanding is that the song is only used in the trailer, but hey, there never was an official “Starman” video, so this is kind of a substitute.

Also, from a Bowie fan perspective, I think the remix is significant enough that its something at least slightly “new.” I’ve long thought that movie trailers are really the most entertaining— one of the few entertaining— types of commercial. So I’m going to say that watching this holds about as much value as watching a music video.

That said, this is far from the only use of the song at the movies…
