I’m surprised with myself that it took me this long to post this song. Ian Hunter was the lead singer of Mott the Hoople, the band Bowie resuscitated in 1972 by giving them the song, “All the Young Dudes.” The version of that song you know best is performed by Mott the Hoople, not Bowie, but if you are reading this you probably already know that.
Anyway, Ian Hunter released this song after Bowie died. Almost every line is a direct reference to Bowie, and those that I don’t recognize as being such are probably indirect references. There’s no need to go line by line because the words are pretty clear and there isn’t much confusion as to what they are referencing (at least for Bowie fans).
