Emm Gryner Remembers Performing with Bowie at NetAid 1999

Emm Gryner is a Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and author whose career includes work with David Bowie. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, she performed as a member of Bowie’s touring band and contributed vocals to his studio work. One of her most memorable appearances with Bowie came at NetAid in 1999, a series of linked benefit concerts held in London, New York and Geneva to raise awareness of global poverty and debt relief while showcasing live Internet broadcasting. Bowie performed at London’s Wembley Stadium, and Emm joined him onstage as part of his band. In this discussion, a version of which originally appeared on Emm’s Patreon, we revisit that event and hear her firsthand memories of performing with Bowie before an international audience. Emm would later sing with Bowie as part of an even more impactful concert– his 2000 appearance at Glastonbury.
