DoM’s latest Bowie Mashup: “Let’s Dance on Le Freak”

Mashup master DoM has created another uncanny Bowie mashup, this time combining “Let’s Dance” with Chic’s “Le Freak.” In a note to me, DoM points out, “The connection between the two tracks is so strong (the Nile Rodgers sound) that I wondered why no mashup producer had thought of it before!” (Rodgers was, of course, highly involved with both original songs).

There’s a moment where this almost doesn’t work. The point at which the familiar “ahhhh” from “Let’s Dance” comes in sounds like the vocals might be too distinct, too associated with the original “Let’s Dance” to fit smoothly in with the music of “Le Freak.” That is, until Bowie’s voice kicks in, after which it sounds perfect.
