DJ De-DeCastelli Remix of “Tonight”

The much anticipated and long awaited announcement of this week’s cover of the week will be postponed for a day and instead I’m posting this remix of “Tonight” that brings Tina Turner’s singing to the forefront. The mix makes the song more of a duet than the version from the album of the same name. The music is also considerably different, and the video features a montage of (mostly) movie clips from the 1980s, few if any of which seem to have anything to do with the song. What I think DJ De-DeCastelli has done here is take Tina’s backing tracks and brought them forward, while silencing Bowie’s part at first. He then brings Bowie in as if they are singing back and forth rather than together. So, that’s creative and in keeping with the Tina Turner theme of some of the past few days.

The music and video aspects attempt to make “Tonight” a dance track, which I really don’t think it is, but the visual images keep the totality of the experience interesting.

Why isn’t this the cover of the week? I don’t think of remixes as covers, so it doesn’t qualify. Also, I have more to say about the selection I’ve chosen for this week than I have stamina to write about right now, so stay tuned…
