Day 87 | Aladdin Sane (1913-1938-197?)

On this day in history, the US entered World War I. The Bowie free association that has been informing my song choice brings me to this one because of th dates that follow what would otherwise be the name of the album on which the song appears. The first two dates, of course are the years before the first two world wars, with the suggestion being that we are on the verge of the next one, or at least we were in the 1970s.  The song is less explicit but I get a sense that he was singing about was pretty much about what the play and movie “Cabaret” captured.  Since the album name is borrowed from the song, Bowie was establishing that the total collection had a theme- not a calm before the storm, but before the storm nonetheless.  Album: Aladdin Sane
