Day 84 | Blackout

I’m reading a book about New York City in 1977. One of the many momentous occurrences of that year was a blackout accompanied by hideous vandalism and looting. I believe this song was partially inspired by the blackout of 1977—I’m not exactly sure because it was released in the same year and as is sometimes the case with Bowie songs, the term has a double meaning (power outage but also the kind of alcohol or drug induced personal blackout that better speaks to the song’s schizophrenia). Bowie’s voice is at its peak on the entire “Heroes” album and that’s a big part of the reason I like this song. Album: “Heroes”
