Day 82 | All the Young Dudes

No other Bowie song is known better as a cover. Bowie gave it to the band, Mott the Hoople and in so doing revived its career (Bowie does sing backup on that version). Nonetheless the song does represent Bowie planting his flag on behalf of his generation, which he distinguished from that which was slightly older (at home listening to the Beatles and Stones). The lyrics are great- “Is there concrete all around or is it in my head?” (A question I often ask myself). Bowie himself would continue to sing it at concerts and recorded at least one version in the studio.
