Day 61 | Oh, You Pretty Things
I’m guessing that if Todd Haynes had the rights to one Bowie song for his slightly fictionalized movie about the glam period, Velvet Goldmine, it would be this one. I imagine Bowie was simply describing what he was seeing and experiencing at the time: rebellious, sexually ambiguous, beautiful young people “driving [their] mommas and poppas insane.” There’s more than a hint of the celebration of hedonism here. But later Bowie will revisit the pretty things and reflect on their not-so pretty evolution (come back tomorrow). Album: Hunky Dory
