Day 351 | A Better Future

This is really one of Bowie’s prayer-songs.  It is a demand of God for a better future.  Read in a more cynical way, it is a demand of a political leader teetering on the brink of heroism.  I am posting this song today because I can imagine Bowie singing this to himself one year ago, with the proespect of imminent death looming.  The other thing unfolding over the course of the last year, which often crept into my commentary about Bowie songs, was the presidential election.  The bizarre end result leaves us all hoping for a better future.  The opening lines of the song could easily be a plea to Trump: “Please don’t tear this world asunder; please take back this fear we’re under.”  Album: Heathen
