Day 286 | Tin Machine

In the grand scheme of things, this is a good but not great, somewhat typical Bowie song.  But it has outsized resonance: a band and two albums were named after this song.  I was not familiar with the term “tin machine” before the band, and since I have thought it meant something along the lines of “feet of clay.”  A machine made out of tin is not very sturdy; neither was the band.  Lyrically, like some other Bowie songs, it paints a dystopian picture.  For these reasons I hadn’t thought of it as a theme song, like “Hey, Hey We’re the Monkeys” (although ironically I recently read that was exactly what band-member Hunt Sales had in mind).  An actual video for this song exists but I cannot find it on line, to this clip is audio only.  Album: Tin Machine
