Day 282 | Tumble And Twirl

This is another Bowie/Pop co-written song that many fans resent.  A quick rule of thumb is Bowie/Pop collaborations performed by Iggy Pop are generally revered while those performed by Bowie are detested.  I like this song and don’t understand why it generates intense negative feelings.  As with many Bowie songs, I like it because of how it sounds, but this also has some depth.  Thematically, this is related to Iggy’s “The Passenger” and many of Bowie’s travel-related songs from Lodger, but the twist here is the contrast between a vacationer’s experience in Borneo and that of impoverished natives.  Like “Let’s Dance,” the music itself sounds happy and energetic, but the lyrics are social commentary.  This version is a little different than what appears on the album.  Album: Tonight
