Day 262 | Fall Dog Bombs The Moon
So it turns out this is an anti-war song. If you don’t listen to the lyrics, it doesn’t sound like an anti-war song. Most such songs sound angry, ominous or at least ironic. This one sounds…pleasant. If you do listen to the lyrics you will probably get tripped up right away on “fall dog.” What is “fall dog?” And the bombing of the moon piece reminds me of a scene in Austin Powers (You want to blow up the moon?). The rest of the lyrics aren’t much more direct, but Bowie himself explained that the inspiration for the song had something to do with Dick Cheney and the run up to the Iraq War. There’s a lot of interpretation out there speculating on what the individual lyrics mean, but the consensus is that it is about war. Album: Reality
