Day 255 | If There Is Something

Bowie’s inclination to try to record at least one cover originally by just about everyone inevitably brought him to Roxy Music.  The original version of the band, which included both Brian Eno and Brian Ferry opened for Bowie during some of his Ziggy era concerts.  Later Bowie would collaborate with Eno on several projects, notably the Berlin Trillogy.  Todd Haynes continued to associate Bowie with Roxy, using at least two covers and a Ferry rendition of “Virginia Plain” in the soundtrack of Velvet Goldmine (which also included a character named Jack Fairy).  Tin Machine adopted this song and recorded it for one of their studio albums as well as for the awful live album, Oy Vey Baby.  Album: Tin Machine II
