Day 252 | Right On Mother

This song was created as part of Bowie’s Arnold Corns project, a briefly existing pre-Ziggy band.  The core band members were the same as the Spiders from Mars and their one actual single included early versions of two songs that would stage comeback s on the Ziggy album, “Moonage Daydream” and “Lady Stardust.” These early versions are distinctly different than the later, better better known album tracks and they flopped almost without notice at the time.  “Right On Mother” was never released.  To me the song is interesting because it seems to be bubbling with the primordial ooze from which the glam-era Bowie would spring.  The voice is there, the groovy 70’s jargon is there (“right on”), so is the edgy sexuality.  The melody, while not great is distinctly better than what Bowie usually came up with during his early late-60s hippy phase.  At the end of the day this is an unfinished work, but it teeters on the edge of what Bowie soon would capture.
