Day 238 | Nature Boy

The 2001 film, Moulin Rouge! Is, oddly, virtually a Bowie tribute.  To start, Bowie contributes a song, “Nature Boy,” to the soundtrack.  Then Beck covers Diamond Dogs.  There is a tortured effort to link the song to the plot.  And while those are two complete songs on the soundtrack, the “Elephant Love Medley,” is perhaps most central to the movie.  The medley includes a fairly substantial portion of “Heroes.”  In the movie, Ewan McGregor sings to Nicole Kidman.  In another movie, Velvet Goldmine, McGregor portrays a fictionalized version of Iggy pop and in fact sings the Stooges song, “TV Eye,” making him the only actor I know of to cover both Bowie and Iggy.  Album: Moulin Rouge Soundtrack.
