Day 196 | V-2 Schneider

While I appreciate Bowie’s instrumentals, the one thing most of them are missing is Bowie’s voice, which forgive me but is a selling point. This one does not exactly suffer from that problem: he sings the words, ‘V 2 Schneider.” Actually, my understanding is that he sings parts of those words and a synthesizer takes care of the rest. Not that a two-word song has a lot of meaning, but “Schneider” is probably a reference to Florian Schneider of the German band, Kraftwerk, which was out even ahead of Bowie with synthesizer music. “V-2” is of course a reference to the rockets Germany fired into Britain during World War 2. So did Kraftwerk’s work hit Bowie like a missile? Or did he just like the sound of it? Album: Heroes
