Day 161 | The Secret Life of Arabia

I always liked this song because it demonstrates the widest range of Bowie’s vocal abilities. It serves as a piece of cheese at the end of the maze of “Heroes,” coming after moody, slow-paced instrumentals. I have read criticism of that sequencing, the idea being that this song kills the mood and would be better placed on Lodger (also in part due to its exotic-locale subject matter), but it works for me. The lyrics have something to do with “Arabia,” but are basically nonsensical. As is often the case, the words here are an excuse for Bowie to sing. This video does not feature images of Bowie but rather someone’s vacation to the Middle East, so you might just want to listen but hey, there is in fact something to look at. Album: “Heroes
