Day 130 | Loving the Alien

Bowie liked to play with words, sometimes using homonyms suggesting one meaning while actually meaning something else. The title of this song is probably the best example. It has nothing to do with being a big fan of Ziggy Stardust or any other extraterrestrial. Instead, “alien,” simply means unfamiliar. The song is about Christian-Muslim relations. Still, the temptation is to simply use the phrase in reference to Bowie himself, which is what Christopher Sanford did when he borrowed the title for Bowie biography. Album: Tonight
