Day 128 | Teenage Wildlife

All the songs on Scary Monsters seem to be about frustration and disenchantment.  The character, the subject, whatever this song is about, briefly begins hopeful but quickly descends into chaos, exploitation maybe, and possibly death.  Not happy, none of this album is happy, but together it is Bowie at his pinnacle. It is the only song in which Bowie apparently refers to himself by name (his first name). I’m also always struck by the shot he takes at New Wave music—“same old thing in brand new drag comes sweeping into view…” Album: Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps).
