Day 117 | Andy Warhol

Bowie had an interest in Andy Warhol from early in his career—he met the artists around the time he originally recorded this song. Around the time of the concert from which this video was filmed Bowie was portraying Warhol in the movie, Basquiat. The pose he adopts with his hand to his face is based on Warhol, and at the end he says “that’s great” in a Warhol voice. My own interest in Andy Warhol dates back far beyond my interest in Bowie, since my childhood when my mother would take me to the Albright Knox Art Gallery to see some of Warhol’s Campbell Soup cans, amongst other things!
