Bowie on the Blockchain?

What’s a Non-fungible token (NFT)? What’s the blockchain? To paraphrase Alec Baldwin’s character from, “The Departed,”, you don’t know, I don’t know…but some Bowie-related NFTs later this month. From Rolling Stone’s reporting on the development:

“THE DAVID BOWIE estate is launching a new NFT series, ‘Bowie on the Blockchain,’ that will feature works from nine different artists paying homage to the late music legend. The NFT project was spearheaded by the Bowie estate, the web3 venture We Love the Arts, and the NFT marketplace OpenSea, where the sale will launch on Sept. 13. All of the profits to the Bowie estate will be donated to CARE, a non-profit for which Bowie’s widow Iman serves as a global advocate.”

Is this a good thing? I’m skeptical. NFTs seem to me to be assigned made-up, seemingly random value. That said, I somehow think Bowie would have approved.

By the way, the image I’m using here has nothing to do with the project. I might change it once we can see what sme of the NFTs look like (?)
