1000 Musicians perform “Under Pressure” (2022)

We’ve seen this before with “Rebel Rebel”— the 1000 musicians, here as “Rockin’ 1000) create a pretty cool sound.  This performance is new.

I recently heard a story that added details to the origin of “Under Pressure.  Bowie happened to be in the same town as Queen while they were both recording their separate projects.   Bowie stopped by for a visit and they all started jamming.  Bowie thought that they were on to something and insisted that they try to actually come up with a song.  One of the techniques he suggested was for him and Freddy Mercury to respond vocally to the music without hearing what the other was doing.  Freddy came up with the scat, Bowie came up with some of the lyrics.

Interestingly, nobody is in agreement on who came up with the famous baseline.  If I understand the story correctly, Bowie credited Queen bassist John Deacon, while Deacon credited Bowie.
